People in Surrey

People with a learning disability want to be seen, heard, and valued.

This week we are celebrating the things that people with a learning disability do by sharing some stories from people who live in Surrey.

Carinder Malhi – Disability Campaigner

Carinder is a passionate campaigner for disability rights who is involved in many groups in Surrey and beyond. He explains why this is important to him and how it makes him feel.

Emma Jane Levallee - Award winner

Emma Jane describes how she changed her life because of getting involved in a project led by Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care System (ICS).

The project won a silver award at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards this year because of the impact in addressing health inequalities for people with learning disabilities.

Emma Jane went to the award ceremony to receive the award and enjoy a great night out.

Philip Lambert - Transport champion

Philip's interest in buses has led to him taking on a role that helps people with information as well as joining a council stakeholder group to represent others.

Clive, Hannah and Lorna – Active in the north west

Clive, Hannah and Lorna talk to Rachel about the activities they enjoy and how positive this is for their wellbeing.

Clive, Hannah and Lorna talk about:

Get it Right!

Get it Right! is a team of people with a learning disability recruited from across Surrey.

They have worked on many easy read documents that have been developed. They always have helpful advice on how to improve the documents and are not worried about saying when they think they don't make sense.

Their work includes information about the Reablement service, Surrey Connect bus leaflets, Your Review (PDF) and Your Assessment booklets (PDF).
