If you have a complex health care need or disability, you might be eligible for free NHS continuing healthcare. You must be assessed as having a primary health need to get this. You can get this case even if you're not in hospital. For example, you may be living:
- at home
- in a hospice
- in a care home
How to find out if you can get NHS continuing care
A health care professional or social worker will assess your eligibility for NHS continuing health care. If this has not happened and you think you may be eligible, contact Surrey's NHS Continuing Healthcare team.
NHS-funded nursing care
NHS funded nursing care covers the standard cost of care by a registered nurse. You may be eligible for this if you:
- do not qualify for NHS continuing care but you have been assessed as needing care from a registered nurse
- live in a care home that is registered to provide nursing care
To find out if you are eligible speak to your GP or social worker.
You can find more information at:
- NHS continuing healthcare on NHS
- NHS funded care National Framework on GOV.UK

What to do if you disagree with your assessment
If you do not agree with the outcome of your assessment you have the right to appeal. For more information on the appeals process contact Surrey's NHS Continuing Healthcare team (Surrey Downs Integrated Care Board).
