An introduction to the Surrey Virtual School: E-Learning course

This e-learning course designed to help you understand more about what the Surrey Virtual School does. It can be completed at your own convenience, and will take between 30 - 40 minutes.

What will I learn?

By the end of this e - learning you will have knowledge of the role, responsibilities and functions of the Virtual School and how this links to current legislation.

  • How your role fits into wider corporate parenting duties.
  • Your responsibility to support the education outcomes of the three cohorts of young people the Virtual School supports.

Education, How to Make a Difference Webinar

Education, how to make a difference, is a course for social workers and independent reviewing officers to support your role in championing the education of children and young people, recognising that education is a protective factor for our most vulnerable children. This course will empower you to support and challenge education settings to work with you to secure effective plans and provision. This is an online training course, taking 3 hours to complete over Microsoft Teams.

What will I learn?

By the end the session you will:

  • Understand the role and functions of the Virtual School for care experienced children and young people and children with a social worker.
  • Explore barriers to engagement and learning for vulnerable pupils and make the links between attendance and attainment.
  • Explore ways of supporting and enabling the learning and development of children and young people.
  • Develop skills for effective partnership working with schools.
  • Know the purpose of the Personal Education Plan (PEP), who must be present and identify your role in ensuring each child and young person always has an up-to-date plan.
  • Develop the education section in CIN/CP planning to reflect the child/young person's needs and effectively write plans in partnership with schools.
