Armed forces commemoration

Surrey's armed forces commemoration events

We have a long armed forces history in Surrey and aim to recognise and remember our armed forces community. Through local initiatives, we want to build awareness of the armed forces contribution to society past and present. The aims of the Armed Forces Covenant include the commemoration of Remembrance Sunday and support for Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show our support for the whole of the armed forces community, from serving personnel to forces families and cadets. It is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our county for those who serve and who have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.

The next Armed Forces Day is Saturday 28 June 2025

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Sunday 2024 is on Sunday 10 November. Details for major events across the county can be found on our Armed Forces Calendar webpage. We will also be sharing information on our @SurreyMilitary Facebook page.

If you are holding a local Remembrance event do let us know via armedforces@surreycc.gov.uk or via @SurreyMilitary on Twitter or Facebook.

Recognition - Heroes' Welcome

The Heroes Welcome Scheme enables communities across the United Kingdom to support the British Armed Forces. Where displayed the Heroes Welcome logo shows support for British Armed Forces personnel and indicates a warm welcome, service upgrade, special acknowledgement or even a little discount as appropriate.

War Memorials

The War Memorial Trust provides advice and information on protection and conservation of war memorials in the UK, as well as running grant schemes to support their repair.
