Surrey Young Farmers and the Cowpie Show
Surrey Young Farmers is part of the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs, a charity which is the UK's largest rural youth organisation. They have organised the annual Cowpie Country Show since 1980. The event provides a venue for the Surrey County Federation of Young Farmers Clubs' outdoor competition day, to raise money and give the public an exciting day out.
Rural England Prosperity Fund project
All the equipment and setting for the show are stored over 20 miles from the site, having to be transported using a large tractor and 25 foot trailer. It requires a minimum of four journeys per show and takes a lot of time between the driving, loading, and unloading. The organisers of this event aimed to streamline this process to make setting up easier and faster for the volunteers and reducing the carbon footprint of the event.
Three lockable 20 foot shipping containers were part funded by the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) to enable all equipment to be stored securely on-site in an unused barn on the Cowpie Country show site.
Project impact
Having the three storage containers onsite will significantly facilitate and simplify the set-up and take down of the event, saving time for the volunteers, as well as cutting miles, traffic, the event's carbon footprint and saving fuel costs and making the event a little easier to manage.
"The shipping containers might not be the most glamorous things but they are perfect for our storage needs. They are going to make a massive difference to the smooth running of the Cowpie Show for many years to come." said Jason Smith from Surrey Young Farmers.
