Rural England Prosperity Fund case study Haslemere Chiropractic clinic grows

Haslemere Chiropractic Clinic

The clinic was originally started by Dr Michelle Carrington, in the front two rooms of her house. It has since been expanded and is continually growing in success. The business deals in non-pharmaceutical ways of treating musco-skeletal conditions primarily through chiropractic care. Treatments offered include manipulation and mobilisation of the joints, soft tissue work and rehabilitation exercises.

Dr Carrington is passionate about her job and eager to help her customers improve their health. However, recently the business has had to turn down new patients as growing demand had outweighed supply, driving them to look for a suitable solution to accommodate more customers.

Rural England Prosperity Fund project

A Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) grant was awarded to the clinic to fund a new chiropractic table, air conditioning and solar panels. The addition of a new table allowed the clinic to open an additional treatment room, and the air conditioning means the business can continue to operate safely during summer without the rooms overheating and keep patients warm in winter. Solar panels reduce the carbon footprint of the clinic and reduce electricity costs, increasing the profitability of the business.

Project impact

Haslemere Chiropractic Clinic has already engaged an additional part-time chiropractor to ensure that there is sufficient capacity in the system to accommodate all existing patients, and to enable the Clinic to grow.

Profitability will be monitored over the winter period, when typically high energy costs squeeze cash flow. It is anticipated that the solar panels and new energy efficient heating (through the air conditioning units) will improve the situation, and it is hoped that a new part-time receptionist will be employed in the spring to help staff the expanding chiropractors' working hours, thus sustaining the clinic's growth.

Michelle Carrington said, "The REPF grant has provided a huge boost to Haslemere Chiropractic Clinic. It has enabled us to continue to grow, to provide a high quality experience for our patients in terms of comfort and equipment, and to improve our profitability. We are also proud to have reduced our carbon footprint, in line with our company ethos."
