Rural England Prosperity Fun case study - New kitchen for The Wheatsheaf Inn

The Wheatsheaf Inn

The Wheatsheaf Inn has been operating in Grayswood, Haslemere for over 120 years. After closing four years ago, Mr Mark Miserotti recognised that re-opening the only pub in the village was a great opportunity to create a fantastic community space and generate revenue.

The premises have been gutted and completely refurbished to a very high standard, whilst retaining the quirks of an old country pub. The project encompassing a bar, restaurant, large outdoor covered patio and garden, re-opened in August 2024 to offer a premium experience of drinks, food, service and entertainment.

Above the pub is staff accommodation and the pub manager lives there along with one other member of staff.

Rural England Prosperity Fun project

The Wheatsheaf Inn received funding from the Rural England Prosperity Funding scheme to install a new commercial kitchen along with two walk-in cold rooms and a cellar cooling unit.

These enable The Wheatsheaf Inn to prepare and cook high quality food using locally sourced ingredients and store local craft beer and wines to sell at the bar.

Project Impact

The pub is now open five days a week and offers food for lunch and dinner as well as a selection of beverages.

The local community and passing trade will benefit from the pub trading. Locals have voiced their excitement for the opening of a pub at the heart of the village where everyone can enjoy high quality, local food and regain an important socialisation venue with their peers.

Food will mainly be sourced locally benefitting more local businesses and the pub has created new jobs.
