The Home Energy Improvement One-Stop Shop, in partnership with home energy experts Furbnow, is an innovative approach to tackling energy inefficiency across Surrey.
Over 300,000 homes in the county have energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings of D or worse, meaning too many Surrey residents live in homes which are poorly insulated, high carbon emitters, expensive to run and at risk of damp and mould, with poor internal air quality.
To help address this, we have teamed up with Furbnow to launch the Home Energy Improvement One-Stop Shop. It is designed to provide a range of benefits, including:
- Lowering energy bills for Surrey residents and making Surrey homes more modern, resilient and future-proofed.
- Improving the thermal comfort of homes, reducing damp and mould and associated health issues.
- Reducing carbon emissions from the residential energy sector.
How it works
The service is designed to help residents that can afford to invest in long-term energy saving measures, such as insulation, solar panels and/or an air source heat pump, to access a qualified Retrofit Assessor and trusted installers. It offers end-to-end support along the journey to improving the energy efficiency of their home, enabling them to make long term cost-savings and make their home greener in the process. Where possible, the service will seek to use local installers, in turn boosting the growing local retrofit market and supporting Surrey's economy. Win-win for everyone.
Eligible Surrey households can access 60% off the cost to plan, design and manage their home energy project, and residents can find out more, and receive a no-obligation quote, by visiting the Furbnow website.
We understand many are unable to afford the upfront cost of retrofit, especially in an ongoing cost of living crisis. Support is available from the Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT), a free-of-charge service which can support with energy debt, and a referral to a funding programme such as the Home Upgrade Grant, which may be able to provide up to £25,000 of home energy improvements for eligible residents.
Watch the Question & Answer
Along with Furbnow, we hosted a webinar to mark the official launch of the service and offer residents the opportunity to ask questions directly to the experts. We have made the recording of the webinar available below. Find out more about the Furbnow retrofit process, our intentions for the service and the benefits you could see from a more energy efficient home. Watch to the end for an engaging Question & Answer (Q&A) which covered topics such as:
- What is the best approach to cavity wall insulation in the many Surrey homes that have tile hung exterior walls?
- What grants are available for heat pumps, how much energy will they save and how much disruption is involved to our internal heating system?
- Do Furbnow's home surveys include thermal imaging?
- How do you insulate the roof of a chalet bungalow?
