Supported Learners run Christmas Pottery Sale to raise money for charity

Surrey Supported Learning offers a wide range of courses for adults with learning disabilities (LD). The courses are designed with a focus on gaining essential skills for life and to help learners to build confidence. There is a real sense of belonging in classes and valuable friendships are made and reinforced as part of attending the programme. Some of our courses enable learners to work towards nationally recognised qualifications that promote our values of inclusiveness as at Surrey Adult Learning we ensure that nobody feels 'left behind'.

Learners benefit not only from great teaching delivered by our qualified tutors, and Supported Learning Assistants but importantly, the vital support of knowledgeable volunteers, who go the extra mile to ensure that each learner is actively involved on the course and contribute to a positive learning environment. The outcomes are promising, with learners continuing onto other courses building on the skills they have learnt and practised.

Here, SAL learner Callum shares his account of an exciting day with his fellow learners:

"On Friday 25 November we held a Pottery Enterprise Sale, selling a lovely range of candle holders and festive decorations, which raised £228 in total, for the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre. Thank you so much for coming to the sale, it was exciting to see so many people. We all hope that you enjoy your wonderful gifts. I enjoyed taking photographs of the event as I go to the photography classes on a Wednesday at SAL.

From all of us in Supported Learning, we like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2023.

See you in the Spring Term!

Best Wishes Callum "
