Celebrating the impact on community wellbeing

The Mental Health Investment Fund (MHIF) is a joint initiative between Surrey County Council and Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board. Established in 2022 with a £10.5m budget, the fund was set up to target mental ill health and emotional wellbeing. Since then, MHIF has supported 24 ground-breaking initiatives.

Celebration event

Recently, an event took place to celebrate the achievements of the MHIF. At the event, several providers offered a glimpse into the difference these projects are making to the lives of Surrey residents.

  • Appeer shared powerful stories of connecting autistic girls and young women. They explained the importance of creating spaces where they can "just" be themselves.
  • Children's Holiday Inclusive Play Scheme (CHIPS) showcased the transformative impact of Easter and summer respite provisions. The playscheme has been described by parents as "a lifeline".
  • Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) Elmbridge described how they have embedded support in Fort House General Practice. Providing immediate assistance to patients in need has made a real difference.

The event also looked forward to exciting opportunities ahead. With a renewed focus on scaling up interventions for children, young people and families, Surrey continues to lead the way in investing in mental health and community wellbeing.

2025 plans

In 2025, £1.2m has been pledged for the Mental Health Scale-Up Fund, with plans for matched funding from the Community Foundation Surrey. This will support projects focusing on children and young people up to 30 years old.
