Refreshing Surrey's communities

Extra highways teams have been out and about keeping the county tidy and safe over the last few months to get Surrey's roads and pavements set for spring.

From November 2024 to February 2025, the Surrey Spring Clean has brought a wave of improvements, ensuring our highways and public spaces are safer, more accessible, and more visually appealing.

Over 600 roads have been refreshed, with teams working hard to clear, clean, and enhance Surrey's network. This work has included:

  • Completing over 50km of footway edging to widen and keep footpaths clear
  • Clearing and cutting back over 50km of weeds and vegetation
  • Cutting back over 380km of roadside hedges to keep visibility clear for drivers and pedestrians
  • Cleaning 360 extra drains to help prevent flooding
  • Cleaning over 2,300 signs and over 40 traffic islands
  • Re-painting and cleaning over 300 railings and bollards to restore their condition
