Surrey Arts announces the appointment of ‘Lead Schools’

Surrey Arts announces the appointment of 'Lead Schools' to support music learning across Surrey

As part of a new Arts Council England initiative, six new Lead Schools have been appointed to work with Surrey Arts, lead organisation for the Surrey Music Hub, on a variety of musical projects and activities which will inspire and engage children and young people as well as offering support to other schools throughout Surrey.

Surrey Arts is delighted to appoint the following lead schools: George Abbot School, Magna Carta School, Hermitage Junior School, Laleham C of E Primary School, Long Ditton St Mary's C of E Junior School, and South Farnham School. The schools all offer high-quality music teaching and will be champions of best practice in their local area, and across the county.

Sarah Lee, Surrey Arts said, "I would like to congratulate the appointed schools and thank them for being advocates for music. We look forward to working with them to ensure all young people across Surrey have access to high quality music experiences and ensure schools are supported to deliver an excellent music curriculum for their pupils."

Councillor Denise Turner-Stewart, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities said, "Surrey County Council knows that music can play such an important part in a young person's life, supporting wellbeing and nurturing their musical talents. We are pleased to be able to formalise our partnerships with schools through the lead school appointments and look forward to bringing many more music activities to as many young people as possible in Surrey."

Further information about the work of lead schools and how you can contact them will be available on the Surrey Music Hub website Surrey Arts - Surrey County Council and Surrey Music Hub.
