Guide to decision making

From this page you can find information about the decision making structure of the County Council and about how Councillors scrutinise and review decisions. All meetings, unless otherwise stated, are open to the public.

You can find out more about the County Council, Cabinet, Select Committees, Planning and Regulatory Committee and Local Committees.

You can find out more about the membership and meeting dates of the committees by looking at the List of Committees. A calendar showing forthcoming meetings is also available. Find out what is being discussed at each meeting and when by looking at the committee papers. You could also review the Cabinet Forward Plan Key decisions and Joint Select Committee Work Programme.

Surrey County Council has a Constitution that sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures that are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for the Council to choose.
