The reasons why we use your personal data

This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Solar Together - Housing Offsetting Credits Pilot Scheme. This scheme leverages carbon savings generated by participants' completed solar photovoltaic (PV) installations to generate and sell carbon credits in the carbon market and then use the revenue to fund further decarbonisation schemes in Surrey. This helps Surrey to achieve net zero carbon emissions in line with our Surrey County Council (SCC) Climate Change Strategy.

What processing of personal data is undertaken by the service?

Your personal data is collated to enable us to:

  • pass details onto an expert third-party organisation that is certified to register retrofit projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) in order to generate (and sell) carbon credits
  • monitor and evaluate the service and for service improvement and planning
  • contact your solar PV installer to request your Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate of installation in addition to ongoing (once yearly) verification that your system is operational which is a requirement for the yearly generation of carbon credits
  • contact you to request your MCS certificate and/or to verify on an ongoing (once yearly) basis that your solar PV system is operational, in the event that your installer is not able to do this on your behalf
  • contact you in the future to provide you with information about other relevant initiatives such as Surrey's One-Stop Shop (OSS) service, or future engagement initiatives like focus groups

What Information do we collect?

  • Address including postcode
  • Contact details
