The reasons why we use your personal data
This privacy notice applies to the operation of the Surrey County Council van, pickup and trailer permit system in place at our community recycling centres.
What processing of personal data is undertaken by the service
Your personal data is collated for the purposes of operating a van, pickup and trailer permit scheme at our community recycling centres which are provided as part of our statutory responsibilities under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We collect your personal data for the following:
- Service delivery
- Service improvement and planning
- Prevention & detection of crime/fraud
- Statistical analysis and reporting

- Name,
- Postal address,
- E-mail address
- Telephone number
- Vehicle registration number
- Vehicle type
- Vehicle make/model
- Vehicle colour
- Financial data
How we are allowed to use your personal data
We use the data in connection with a legal obligation or public task under various UK legislation including but not limited to :
- Local Government Act
- Environmental Protection Act 1990
Consent
In applying for a van, pickup or trailer permit you consent to the use of your personal data for the purposes of operating the van, pickup and trailer permit system. You have the right to remove the data at any time however this will mean that your permit will no longer be valid and you will not be able to access any of our community recycling centres with a van, pickup or trailer. If at any time you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address wasteoperations@surreycc.gov.uk.
Who we share your personal data with
We share your personal data with our contractor Suez to view the van, pickup and trailer permit data base, for the purposes of validating permits. Suez operate the community recycling centres on behalf of Surrey County Council.
Your data can also be viewed by our Contact Centre when you make contact with us to check your data or make any requested changes.

Personal data is not processed outside the UK/EU.

Data will be retained in accordance with the countywide data retention schedule.
