The reasons why we use your personal data

This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Environment Service to provide support about the potential energy grants and benefits available to you based on your property, including access to the energy performance certificate information if available, and household data. In addition, your information at post code level will be used to focus primarily on any household, energy grant and benefit availability being sought, and the identification of fuel poverty at geographical and household level.

Personal information is not obtained, used or disclosed to any other organisation who may be hosting the Surrey Energy Advice tool on their own websites.

What processing of personal data is undertaken by the team

Your personal data is collated to enable us to provide tailored options in respect of financial and non-financial support to cope with the energy and fuel cost increases. In addition, we collect your personal data for research, statistical analysis and reporting into energy and benefit provision and fuel poverty.

  • Postcode

Information about your property and household which when compiled together may indirectly comprise personal information about you or your household.

  • Age range and numbers in household
  • Energy performance certificate data if held
  • Property age
  • Energy rating
  • Insulation
  • Type of heating
  • House ownership
  • Type of energy meter information
  • Energy supplier
  • Household income
  • Benefit entitlement and ability to pay energy bills

How we are allowed to use your personal data

Consent

To process your personal data, we will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why. If we have consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address climatechange@surreycc.gov.uk and we will deal with your request.

Who we share your personal data with.

Statistical analysis reporting will be shared at post code area level, but not at address level, with:

  • Voluntary, community and faith sector organisations who are supporting the initiative
  • District and Borough Councils who are supporting the initiative
  • Internal Surrey County Council Services who benefit from the Statistical Analysis

Automated Decision Making when computers make any decisions about you

Based on the information you provide on yourself, your household and property, it will be calculated by a computer-generated algorithm that will return tailored support options of the current benefits and grants which may be available to you. Please contact climatechange@surreycc.gov.uk if you wish to see the criteria and logic in the decision-making process.

Personal data being sent or processed outside of the UK & EU

We do not send or process data outside of the UK.

Retention of data

Data will be retained for 7 years.
