Volunteering with Surrey County Archaeological Unit

Have you always wanted to try your hand at archaeology? Or are you looking to gain more experience? Why not volunteer with Surrey County Archaeological Unit.

Fieldwork

We often have various community archaeology projects running over the summer months, including excavations, survey days and field walking. No previous experience is necessary and you will be supervised and trained by professional archaeologists from Surrey County Archaeological Unit.

Wednesday volunteering

Throughout the year we also run volunteering sessions at the Surrey History Centre in Woking. During these sessions, volunteers sort and process finds and environmental samples from archaeological excavations around Surrey, as well as a variety of other jobs that vary from week to week. Running 11am till 4pm, no previous experience is necessary and full training will be given. Booking is essential, so please email the address below for details.

Work experience

We take a limited number of work experience placements each year for year 11, sixth form and college students. Unfortunately, Surrey Heritage's work experience programme for 2023 is now full. If you would like to find out more about careers in the sector please see our Culture Links Careers Guidebook (found under the Students and Young People section).
