Surrey Arts offer many opportunities for children to extend their learning with a variety of music and arts workshops. These take place throughout the year and include orchestral courses, singing workshops, piano master classes, guitar skills workshops and many more. Picks 'n' Stix
A unique experience offering each student the chance to try a wide range of contemporary instruments whilst also learning to play in a group setting. Try each instrument or focus on your favourite.
Instruments include guitar, drums, keyboards, bass guitar and ukulele.
- Groups of 3 or 4 hours and 30 minutes
- Groups of 5 or more: 45 minutes
Cost: £8.60 per lesson

Holiday activities
There are a variety of activities that are on offer during the school holidays including Surrey Music and Arts in the Summer Holidays (SMASH) activities and Easter programmes. The activities are take place various locations across the county so there are more opportunities to experience DJing, brass and wind instruments, singing, ukulele and being part of a band.

DJ experience
You can gain DJ experience with a Surrey Arts course on the 'Wheels of Steel'. Learn how to DJ on top of the range Roland 808 DJ Consoles and learn Serato DJ Pro mixing software. Learn on a digital and portable DJ set-up, built to play the biggest DJ sets at any event. Beat Matching, Scratching, Sound Manipulation, cutting and blending music is all demonstrated and can be attempted and achieved; only a love of music is required, no previous knowledge, experience, or training. Real explorers can record their own DJ Sets and can DJ live and back to back with other students.
Discover wind, brass and strings
A great opportunity to learn how to play an instrument with other beginners in a fun and relaxed setting! Learn first how to make a sound, then read basic notation and play pieces together, all in one session. There will also be fun musical games and activities in between. No prior music experience required, and instruments will be provided.
The band experience
If you've ever wanted to rock out with a band or see how it feels to perform as a pop star, this is your chance to see how it all starts. You'll get to try out Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards and Vocals, and you'll even get to perform a song at the end. You'll learn how to start a band, and how to play with others to create an awesome sound. No experience is required, just your love of music. Instruments are provided.
Sing the musicals
Learn and perform songs from musical theatre shows, as well as taking part in other fun musical games and activities in between! Experience the joy and pleasure of singing together. No need to bring an instrument or any equipment, just your voice and your enthusiasm!
Art classes
A chance to be creative and explore your artistic talents in these art classes which use a variety of styles and techniques.

DJ and Music Production Workshops
A unique 3 hour workshop for young people aged 8 to 16 years old to learn the art of DJing and an introduction to music technology in a fun and educational way. Use mixing consoles to beat match, blend, cut, paste and scratch music to create a DJ mix. No previous musical experience necessary. These workshops take place during the school holidays. Online music workshops
Online music workshops such as piano master classes, singing workshops and drum line become available throughout the year.
Visual art workshops
We hold an extensive database of local visual artists experienced in running workshops in a variety of settings. Artists range from feltmakers, sculptors, glass artists and printmakers. Whether we manage the workshops ourselves or source the artists on behalf of other organisations, the emphasis is on creativity, inclusion and learning new skills.
