Slow down for horses in the countryside

Meet Jane and Maggie, experienced horse riders who regularly use and love the Surrey countryside.

In this short video taken near Peaslake, they explain why the Surrey countryside is so good for horse riding and what you should do when you come across a horse and rider. They highlight a few tips on being horse aware including;

  • The countryside is for everyone, when spending time outdoors you will come across other users and animals. Slow down or stop for horses, walkers and livestock when driving or cycling and always give them plenty of room.
  • Let the horse rider know you are approaching. Their behaviour can be unpredictable.
  • Keep dogs under control near horses.
