Spring wildflower workshop at Sheepleas

Join wildlife guide Susy Dixon-Jones for an early Spring wildflower foray at the beautiful and biodiverse Sheepleas Nature Reserve.

Come and seek out a huge array of wild plants, learning their key identifcation features and about the life they support. Along the way we will look out for other wildlife, and learn about the various tree species in the woods. Ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about wild plants and the local area with a knowledgeable guide.

Wildfire awareness week

Join the Thames Basin Heaths Partnership and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service this Wildfire Awareness week for a variety of free activities. You'll get to meet the local fire crews, learn about how wildfires start, learn some key safety tips and learn more about the beautiful heathland. Fire engines will also be on site if available. Staff from our Visitor Services team will also be available to talk about our countryside visitor survey.

  • Place: Worplesdon Commons, Saltbox Road car park, Guildford GU3 3LH
  • Time: 10am to 2pm

Nature restoration at Puttenham Common talk

Join the Hampton Estate to hear about the first two years of their 100 year plan for nature restoration on Puttenham Common. Cows have been grazing the common for the first time in generations, regular bird surveys have taken place, so too butterfly transects, timber has been extracted to open up boggy mires, there has been constant ecological monitoring and a first ever Bioblitz was held. Find out about the data collected and the impact these initiatives have had .

Volunteer at Tice's Meadow

Come and join our rangers and volunteer at Tice's Meadow near Farnham. Tasks might include; clearing vegetation, maintaining paths, fence and gate repairs, habitat management, wildlife surveys and more.

We have volunteer sessions running on the following dates:

  • Date: Friday 11 and 25 April.
  • Place: Tice's Meadow. Please meet at Horton's Mound which is shown on our interpretation boards around the site.
  • Time: 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Countryside visitor survey engagement event

We are always looking to listen and learn from our visitors about how they enjoy Surrey's countryside spaces, including what they value most about their visits and how we can improve their overall experience. Our countryside visitor survey is running until 30 May and we will be holding in-person engagement events at various locations where you will have the opportunity to meet with staff from the Visitor Services Team and find out more about the survey.

  • Date: Wednesday 16 April
  • Place: Newlands Corner Discovery Centre, Albury Downs car park, Guildford, Surrey GU4 8SE
  • Time: 12pm to 2pm

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will be joining us for this event with one of their fire service vehicles, information on their service and children's activities.
