Tree planting volunteer events this winter

The Tree Planting Team at Surrey County Council are seeking volunteers for their winter tree planting events from November through to February to plant new trees and meet the Council's 1.2million tree planting target! No experience needed, just wrap up warm, bring a spade and join in!

  • Date: November to February
  • Place: Various locations across Surrey
  • Time: Usual times are 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 3pm

Bike Registry at Newlands Corner

This autumn, the Surrey Police Safer Neighbourhood team are running events at Newlands Corner on burglary and bike theft prevention, encouraging cyclists to tag and add their bikes to the Bike Registry. This will be a fantastic chance to get your bike registered for free by local officers, using official Bike Register marking kits. Simply bring along your bike to Newlands Corner on the below dates;

  • Date: Saturday 9 and 23 November
  • Place: Newlands Corner, GU4 8SE
  • Time: 12pm to 4pm

Santa Cruises at the Basingstoke Canal

Bring the family to the Basingstoke Canal to meet Father Christmas in his canal-side grotto between 3 and 23 December 2024. Climb aboard our boat Rosebud waiting for you at the canal centre and take a gentle cruise to the start of the tinsel trail in the woods. Little ones lead the way and follow the trail to find Father Christmas in his grotto and receive a special gift. Cruise back to the canal centre and head into Santa's Workshop for Christmas colouring activities, warm drinks and mince pies for all!

  • Date: 3 to 23 December
  • Place: Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre, Mytchett, Surrey GU16 6DD.
  • Time: Various timeslots available .
  • Cost: £22, £19 and £16 depending on day and time.

A new hedge being createdHedge laying course in Norbury Park on 7 December

Hedges and Hurdles Country Skills and Crafts provide hedge laying and coppicing training throughout the coppicing season between October and March each year. This country craft rejuvenates existing hedgerows and improves the overall structure and strength of a hedge providing protection for crops and wildlife.

  • Date: Saturday 7 December
  • Place: Norbury Park, KT22 9DX
  • Time: 9am to 4pm
