Surrey Heath Local Nature Reserves

Brentmoor Heath Local Nature Reserve near West End, Lightwater is owned jointly by Surrey Heath Borough Council and the Ministry of Defence. Brentmoor Heath is also part of the Thursley, Ash, Pirbright and Chobham Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA). Brentmoor Heath comprises both wet and dry heaths and species found include ling and bell heather, so is particularly scenic during late summer and early autumn. Birds found include nightjar, woodlark, Dartford warbler, treecreeper, siskin and crossbill, as well as the silver-studded blue butterfly.

This area is a part of the much larger Chobham Common National Nature Reserve, an extensive open area of lowland heath.
