Pay
At Surrey County Council we pay above the minimum wage rate and we have a number of benefits accessible to our apprentices to support with cost of living.
Apprentice salaries vary depending on the level of apprenticeship you undertake:
- Level 2/3 Apprenticeship £22,599 per annum in year one and £23,576 in year two.
- Level 4+ Apprenticeship £23,576 per annum
- Internship £23,576 per annum
You will be paid for time spent training or studying for your apprenticeship, while at work, at college or a training organisation.

Training and development
Completing an apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn. At Surrey, we ensure our apprentices have a dedicated day each week to concentrate on their coursework. Additionally, we offer a variety of training resources for all staff, including masterclasses, training courses, webinars, and learning tools.
TOTUM Apprentice membership
TOTUM Apprentice is the discount card for apprentices in the UK. This membership gives you access to discounts, deals and offers on big-name brands both online and in store.
Annual leave allowance
Offering 26 days of holiday (prorated for part-time staff) that increases to 28 days after just 2 years of service and 30 days after 5 years. Plus, for even more flexibility, employees have the option to purchase up to 10 additional annual leave days.
Travel and transport
A range of travel and transport benefits are available to our staff, including business mileage reimbursement; interest free rail and bike loans, a lease car scheme, cycle to work scheme and discounted rail and bus fares.
If you're 18 or over, live in a London borough and in your first year of an apprenticeship, you can get discounted travel with an Apprentice Oyster Card.
National Rail Discounts
There are two types of National Railcards available to young people.
The 16-17 Saver railcard is available for just £30 per year, you will save 50% off most rail fares. The 16-25 Railcard is also available for £30 per year and will help to save money on rail fares if you are undertaking an apprenticeship. You can save a 1/3 off rail prices with this card.
Lifestyle discounts
Vivup is our employee benefits platform service, providing staff with access to lifestyle discounts on thousands of the UKs largest retailers & service providers. You can save money on food shopping, holidays, cinema tickets, clothes, weekends away and much more.
Local Government Pension Scheme
We offer membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Contributions range from 5.5% to 12.5% of pensionable pay based on earnings.
