Surrey Fire and Rescue Service
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) provides an emergency service that looks after approximately 1.18 million people spread across approximately 1,676 square kilometres in a county that includes several large urban areas. Surrey has also been found to have the highest concentration of trees in the UK. There are 103 kilometres of motorway, two major airports nearby and more than 1000 sites identified as posing high risk throughout the county.
Surrey's Firefighters are trained to deal with a range of emergency situations, not just fires and road traffic collisions. These activities include working with other agencies to respond to widespread flooding and other water rescue incidents or dealing with emergencies that may involve hazardous materials. SFRS delivers services to ensure our communities are safer, whether it be preventing and protecting people from fire and other risks or responding swiftly and effectively to the emergencies that occur.
At SFRS, we believe it is essential to embed our commitment to the Core Code of Ethics and particularly equality, diversity and inclusion, into every aspect of our work. This is a dual responsibility applying both to our outward facing, community-focussed activities and to our internal responsibilities to people and volunteers.
Our vision is that everyone representing SFRS will be community role model. This include:
- Putting our communities first
- Integrity
- Dignity and respect
- Leadership
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
The Team
The Data and Digital Team is responsible for SFRS's core data analysis and reports, both of which are used in support of service delivery and improvement. We also lead on the Digital Strategy and related IT projects and data governance; there are around a dozen people in the team at the moment.
Our team played a lead role in modelling the response incident data that has enabled a significant shift of the workforce from this activity into community protection and prevention activities. We continue to be key in enabling the Mobilising Control function of the Service to enlarge its scope to cover other fire and rescue services.
The Role
Your role as our Performance & Intelligence Specialist role is to visualise and analyse service performance data and management information such as operational response data and community fire safety work streams, through to sickness and absence data. You will also be a key person in making the following areas work happen:
- Support renewal of the Service's performance management framework, particularly around benchmarking, target setting for station and borough plans and annual update of service plans
- Take a lead on responding to requests for management information, provide national data returns and support Freedom of Information requests
- Work as part of the team that updates the Service's Community Risk Profile which is our assessment of the risks facing communities in Surrey based on our analysis of available data
