About the Team

This is an exciting time to join Surrey County Council's Children with Disabilities Service as we embed the Family Safeguarding Model to improve outcomes for our children. Working closely with our colleagues in Education and Health, the Children with Disabilities Service aims to safeguard and promote the welfare and development of disabled children, whilst supporting them to be cared for by their families at home.

The Review Team, part of the wider Children with Disabilities Service, is made up of nine Family Support Workers, an Advanced Social Work Practitioner and Team Manager. The team provides families with support to manage the care of children with severe and permanent disabilities.

About the Role

As a Family Support Worker, you will work directly with children and their families to assess and review their needs on a six-monthly basis, identifying packages of support to assist them. You will conduct home visits, review care packages across a multidisciplinary network and present families' needs to request packages of support.

  • The ability to plan, manage, and prioritise a caseload
  • The ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team and a willingness to provide guidance and assistance to less experienced or more junior members of staff

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and Family Support Workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.
