At Surrey Fire & Rescue Service, we are committed to the growth and development of our workforce. We are excited to announce two Watch Commander opportunities at Godstone Fire Station, welcoming applications from internal candidates and those seeking an Inter-Service Transfer (IST).

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role, driving operational readiness, community safety, and team development in a dynamic and supportive environment.

About the Role
As a Watch Commander, you will take on a key leadership role, managing both operational and non-operational activities to ensure the highest levels of performance. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and motivating your team to maintain operational readiness and high performance standards.
  • Delivering community safety initiatives and fostering engagement within the local community.
  • Managing and coordinating training schedules to ensure team competence and compliance with service requirements.
  • Collaborating across stations and departments to align with strategic service goals.

This is an exciting role for those looking to enhance their leadership skills and make a real impact on operational delivery and team development.

Eligibility Criteria
Applications are invited from:
  • Substantive Watch Commanders.
  • Members of the Watch Commander Development Pool.
  • Inter-Service Transfers (ISTs) from other fire and rescue services.
Please note: Temporary Watch Commanders who have not successfully passed a Watch Commander boarding are not eligible to apply.

You must also demonstrate:
  • A strong understanding of the NFCC Leadership Framework at the "Leading Others" level.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills in both operational and non-operational contexts.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
Selection Process
