Marvelous Makers Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge starts in all Surrey Libraries on Saturday 6 July!

Godalming Library is holding the following events in support of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Junk modelling storytime

Join us at 11am on Wednesdays in the Summer Holidays for a special Junk Modelling storytime. Each week we will explore a different theme. Dates and themes:

  • 24 July: Make a football goal
  • 31 July: Make a Rocket
  • 7 August: Make a bridge
  • 14 August: Make a Kite
  • 21 August: Make a Tower
  • 28 August: Make a Planet

Drop in badge making

  • Saturday 27 July, from 2pm to 4pm
  • Tuesday 27 August, from 2pm to 4pm

Come and design your very own pin badge using the templates provided. What design will you choose to make? Donations welcomed

Design a superhero craft

Tuesday 30 July, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Do you have an idea for your ideal superhero? Join us for our design a superhero craft workshop and you can make a model superhero to take home with you.

Suitable for ages 5+. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Coding taster session

Thursday 1 August, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Join us to learn how to code your very own game using scratch!

Suitable for ages 7 to 10.

Origami drop in

Tuesday 13 August between 2pm and 4pm.

Drop in to Godalming Library and put your origami skills to the test. We will have someone on hand to show you how to make some basic models. Donations Welcomed

Game design workshop

Thursday 15 August, from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Join us at a games concept workshop to help you think about the story for your perfect game and generate ideas.

Sutible for ages 8 to 12. Donations welcomed.

Make a boat science workshop

Tuesday 20 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Join us as we build a boat and learn about why objects float and forces. At the end of the session we will get to test the boats.

Suitable for ages 6+. Tickets cost £3 per child.

Storytelling workshop

Friday 23 August, from 1030am to 11.30.am

Join us to a storytelling workshop to help you come up with the concept for your very own story.

Suitable for ages 6 to 10. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Jellyfish craft

Thursday 29 August, from 2.30pm to 3:30pm.

Come and make your very own jellyfish inspired mobile using recycled materials.

Suitable for ages 4+. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Godalming library Staycation

The Godalming Library Staycation 2024 for Godalming residents will take place from Saturday 3 August to Sunday 11 August.

Join Godalming Library at the Animal Park for a special themed week of activities for the Godalming Staycation!

Staycation events and activities are suitable for individuals, families and groups of all ages to enjoy, who live in Godalming and its villages. To see the full staycation programme visit the Godalming Town Council Staycation webpage.

Godalming Library will be holding the following events.

Animal rhymetime at Godalming library

Join the staff at Godalming library for a special Animal themed Rhymetime for the under 5's at 11am on the following dates:

  • Saturday 3 August
  • Tuesday 6 August
  • Thursday 8 August
  • Saturday 10 August

No booking is required but spaces are limited. Donations Welcome

Godalming library animal park

Monday 5 August during regular open hours.

Help us create "The Godalming Library Animal Park". What is your favourite animal?

Come down to Godalming Library on Monday 5 August where you and your family are invited to help us recreate a large paper model animal park. What animals will you choose to include? We will have templates available, or you can choose to draw something yourself. You could even design your own animal from your imagination.

It will be available to add to throughout the day. Free for everyone to attend but donations are welcomed.

Introduction to Pyrography

Tuesday 6 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Pyrography is the art of burning a design into wood. Join us at Godalming Library for our pyrography coaster workshop.

Suitable for adults and children aged 12+. Ticket price has been reduced to £3 for Staycation.

Animal puppet making craft

Wednesday 7 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Join as at Godalming Library. We will be making moving animal puppets. You can choose to make whatever animal you would like, and all materials are provided. For ages 3+. Tickets are £1 per child. Creative writing workshop

Thursday 8 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Following the animal theme, staff at Godalming Library will be hosting a special creative writing workshop, for ages 8 to 14.

We will look at ways of constructing our main characters, developing ideas and building them into stories!

Tickets cost £1.

Nishani Reed local author event

Friday 9 August, 11am to 12 noon.

Join local children's author Nishani Reed at Goldaming Library as she reads her book Nabil Steals a Penguin.

There will be a draw along activity, and fun activity sheets as well as an opportunity to ask questions.

Tickets cost £4 per child.

Suitable for ages 4 to 7.

Scrabble Club and other Games

Friday 9 August, from 2pm to 2.30pm.

Join us for a special session of our scrabble club. We also have a junior scrabble board and some other similar games like Upwords available.

Scrabble club runs fortnightly during term time so come and make new friends at this special session before it resumes in September. No booking required.

Animal themed cup and ball game

Saturday 10 August, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

What is your favourite animal? Why not come to Godalming Library and make it into a fun cup and ball game. All materials are provided.

Suitable for ages 3+. Tickets cost £1 per child.

Cantonese rhymetime and bilingual storytime

On the fourth Saturday of every month from 10am until 10.30am.

Suitable for children aged 18 months and over. No booking required.

Hearing Aid clinic

The Hearing Aid Clinic is returning to Godalming Library. The clinic will allow for routine maintenance of your hearing aid. No booking is required.

Third Monday of the month from 10.30am until 12.30pm, on the following dates:

  • 18 November
  • 16 December

Scrabble club

Alternate Fridays during term time from 2pm to 3.30pm. Free, no booking required, just turn up.

Knit and stitch craft group

Alternate Mondays, from 2.30pm until 4pm. Upcoming dates:

  • 8 July
  • 22 July

Join us at Godalming Library on alternate Monday afternoons (excluding bank holidays). Bring your own craft project to work on and meet new people. Open to everyone and all crafts are welcome!

Lego and Duplo club

Every Monday from 4pm until 5pm

Lego suitable for ages 6+ or Duplo available for younger children aged 2 to 5.

Dungeons and Dragons

Every Tuesday during term time from 4pm to 6pm.

Join the Wayfarer's League on a new adventure at Godalming Library as our Dungeon Masters guide you through character creation and learning the joys of tabletop roleplaying. You will then venture forth with your newly made character, along with your party members on a grand adventure!

Dice, Character sheets and all materials are provided.

For ages 10 to 14.

Cost: £10 per session, paid by the term.

Spaces are limited so booking necessary.

What next? Wednesdays

Every Wednesday from 2pm until 5pm

Local charity What Next? will be in Godalming Library offering eco advice, information and support. Come and chat to one of their volunteers, share your thoughts and concerns.

What Next? wardrobe warriors

Second Wednesday of every month from 3pm to 5pm

We will help you keep your favourite, comfy clothes going for longer. We can be company whilst you sew on a button or put up a hem. We will have needles, thread in a few colours, a sewing machine and some people who can sew. Bring your buttonless tops, your toeless socks and your holey frocks.

Godalming library Reading Friends poetry group

Godalming Library invites you to join our friendly and informal Poetry Group.

Thursday afternoons, once a month, from 2pm to 3pm. Upcoming dates and themes:

  • 25 July: Death, grief and solace
  • 22 August: Animals
  • 19 September: Parents and grandparents
  • 17 October: Britain
  • 14 November: Solitude
  • 12 December: A reading of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

No specialist knowledge is required, just an interest in sharing our enjoyment of poetry. We will be reading some poetry and talking about the poems and poets we love.

Meets on the last Friday of the month from 10.30am until 11.30am.

Digital Buddy

Free, one to one, 45 minute computer help sessions.

Appointments are available on:

  • Mondays at 10am, 10.45am and 11.30am.
  • Fridays at 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
