Summer Reading Challenge events

Haslemere library are holding the following events in support of the Summer Reading Challenge, Marvellous Makers!

Let us make this summer marvellously creative!

Cardboard junk modelling workshop

Saturday 6 July, from 10.30am to 12 noon.

We are kicking off this years Summer Reading Challenge with a new Junk Modelling Workshop and we can not wait to see what you can create!

What can your child create with cardboard boxes and Makedo first tools?

Hands-on Learning: Kids will learn some basic construction techniques and then, using the Makedo tools, construct anything they can imagine! Junk Modelling: Kids will have cardboard boxes, toilet rolls and various other recycled materials to build their constructions.

Parent-Child Teamwork: This is a great activity for parents to get involved with too - what can you and your child build together?

We will proudly display your child's creations throughout the library after the event. Or, for an additional £2, take home your masterpiece and continue the fun!

All participants will receive a special Marvellous Makers Recycling Engineer certificate.

This activity is suitable for ages 5+.

Marvellous Maker hide and seek

This is a free drop-in activity running all day during opening hours from Wednesday 24 July to Saturday 31 August.

The makers are playing hide and seek in the library...

Get an activity sheet from the front desk and find them all to claim your free sticker!

Comic book capers

Thursday 8 August, from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Do you like comic books and graphic novels? Join us for an exciting event as part of the Summer Reading Challenge.

Learn the basics of Character Design and create a simple character as a group. Outline a basic story featuring our character then storyboard and illustrate your comic book to take home. No need to be good at writing or drawing. This is the perfect chance for budding artists and storytellers to unleash their creativity and have fun!

Creative collage

Thursday 29 August, from 11am to 12 noon.

Calling all Marvellous Makers!

Learn some basic collage techniques using a variety of different media including stamps and photographs as well as paper.

Create a masterpiece to frame and take home.

This activity is suitable for ages 5+.

Crime thriller evening with Jacqueline Sutherland and A.A. Chaudhuri

Thursday 26 September, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Please arrive 15 minutes early so that you can be served tea/coffee and find a seat.

Join Jacqueline Sutherland and A.A. Chaudhuri for a fascinating talk on their crime and thriller books.

The authors will be discussing the research and writing process, as well as the inspiration behind their novels. The event will include a question and answer opportunity at the end so have your questions ready for the authors to answer.

The event is suitable for adults.

Booking necessary. Tickets cost £6. Please purchase a ticket for each person attending.

Reading groups

Chatterbooks reading group

One Saturday a month from 11.10am until 11.50am. Please check with the branch for the next session date.

Do you like reading, making friends and taking part in fun activities then why not join Haslemere library Chatterbooks?

Suitable for children aged 7 years and over.

Art club

First Friday of every month, from 2pm to 3pm.

Join us for an afternoon of doodles, drawings, and delightful creations. Bring your flair, your style, and your own materials. This is your space to sketch, share, and connect with fellow creatives.

No bookings, no fees, just fun!

Coffee morning

First Saturday of each month from 10 to 11.30am.

Come meet old friends and make new ones at our free coffee morning! Tea, coffee and conversation provided.

Crafting circle

Last Saturday of every month from 10am to 12 noon.

This is an open craft group so please bring in any handicraft project you happen to be working on be it knitting or crochet, embroidery or darning, come for a chat and get some inspiration from fellow crafters!

If you don't have a project, feel free to use any tools and materials we have here at the library if you fancy trying out a new craft (we have embroidery hoops, knitting needles, crochet hooks, needles and thread and more) or simply help us put together our Community Blanket.

We want to create a space where anyone can come and learn a new craft, share their skills and ideas and help each other on our creative journeys, and we encourage any beginners to come and learn from our more experienced members.

Digital Buddy

Fortnightly on Tuesdays, from 10am until 12 noon.
