Woking parking review 2022

Page contents

There are a number of stages involved in this review, as shown in the list above. We are currently at the Implementation stage.

Introduction

During November and December 2021 we assessed on-street parking concerns across the borough by carrying out site visits. These concerns had been brought to our attention largely by members of the public, the police, councillors and highway officers since the previous review took place. After completing the site visits we prepared a report of our findings and recommendations.

Authorisation

We presented this report of our findings and recommendations to the Woking County Councillors for approval. The report was also presented for information to the Woking Joint Committee at its meeting on the evening of 4 April 2022. You can read the more about this committee and the parking report using the link.

Advertisement and objections

The parking proposals that got approved by County Councillors were formally advertised by public notice from 24 June until 22 July 2022. Thank you to everybody who participated.

You can still view and download drawings of all the proposals lower down this page. Drawings are presented in PDF format, and displayed by County Councillor division.

Please note that any Woking town centre proposals will be displayed in the Goldsworth East and Horsell Village division.

Approval

All the feedback was then compiled into a report. This report was then distributed to councillors and the Traffic Enforcement and Parking Team Manager to read. Together they made decisions on how to proceed at each location, taking the feedback submitted during the consultation into account.

The final recommendations are presented in a 'Decisions Report', which has been published below on this web page. It has also been distributed to everybody who participated in the consultation to let them know the outcome.

Implementation

Orders were then raised with our contractors to install the agreed changes on the ground. 85% of the line painting has been completed now. We have half a dozen locations that remain to be installed. At these sites we are experiencing persistent parking, ignoring our attempts to clear the area. We continue to monitor this sites and will paint the lines when we can.

A final Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been made and published. This has made all the changes made in the parking review legally enforceable by Civil Enforcement Officers.
