The A24 was fully re-opened Friday 19 July. We still need to resurface Deepdene roundabout in the evening on Friday evening.

We are committed to completing the A24 project as quickly and as safely possible. Despite the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions, we've successfully rebuilt 10 miles of road in just 10 days.
We're committed to safety and quality, and sometimes that means adapting to unforeseen circumstances. Due to it being the hottest day of the year so far, the heat is affecting the road setting process, we're adjusting our schedule to ensure everything is perfect and will be reopening the full stretch of the A24 later this evening.
By late this evening, the A24 will be fully operational, marking a significant achievement under extraordinary conditions.
Givon's Grove Roundabout will be resurfaced over the weekend during the evening, lane access will be in place to enable connection.
Friday 19 July 8am
The A24 is gradually reopening, with Deepdene Roundabout to Givons Grove Roundabout NOW OPEN.
While the Beare Green Roundabout to Flint Hill Roundabout is still under works, the commitment to open it later today shows the relentless effort being put in to minimise disruption. Night works and resurfacing of roundabouts are crucial steps to ensure the safety and reliability of this key route.
Thursday 18 July 9am
We are still on target for our Friday lunchtime opening of the A24, with exception of some roundabouts that will be completed at night. We are continuing to complete lining, studding and ironworks today.
Flint Hill Roundabout will be resurfaced today and Friday during the day from 8am. Southbound access via Spook Hill.
Wednesday 17 July 3pm
We are still on target for our Friday lunchtime opening of the A24, with exception of some roundabouts that will be completed at night.
Flint Hill Roundabout will need to be resurfaced during the day on Thursday and Friday this week. Local access will be maintained.
Tuesday 16 July 2pm
With the yellow weather warning, we still managed to continue working throughout the night.
We are dedicated to opening the A24 as quickly and safely as possible. Our aim is to have the A24 fully reopened during the daytime only, by Friday lunchtime.
The roundabouts have been cleaned but will require resurfacing, this has been scheduled in for evening works (8pm - 6am) over the next week.
Monday 15 July 2pm
We were working hard over the weekend, continuing to make steady progress to rebuild large sections of the A24.
We are planing and laying a new road surface from Old Horsham Road towards Flint Hill Roundabout. We have also been working on the section between Flint Hill Roundabout and Deepdene Roundabout. We are currently on track with our work programme.
The Met Office have announced there is a yellow weather warning of rain in place tonight and tomorrow, so this may impact the works. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the week.
In addition we have lining and drainage crews working throughout the affected area.

We are still focused on the section between Denbies Roundabout and Givons Grove Roundabout, and have laid a further 400 tonnes of new road surface today.
We're committed to repairing large sections of the A24 as quickly and safely as possible.

Saturday 13 July 4pm
Denbies Roundabout (Pixham Lane) to Deepdene's Roundabout (Cockerel) will be open north and southbound as of now to alleviate traffic in the area.
We are continuing to work over the weekend and our surfacing will be focusing on the Old London Road to Givons Grove section.
In addition we have lining and drainage crews working throughout the affected area.
Saturday 13 July 11am
Yesterday we made very good progress between Denbies and Mickleham and last night planed and laid up to Swanworth Lane
We also carried out further work to the Ashcombe Road junction to enable that to be opened this morning and a section between Deepdene Roundabout and Ashcombe Road to help alleviate the pressure on Dorking town centre
We are continuing to work over the weekend and our surfacing will be focusing on the Old London Road to Givons Grove section.
In addition we have lining and drainage crews working throughout the affected area.

We're pleased to announce that this section of the road was reopened from 3pm today. This reopening is crucial to support the M25 closures over the weekend, helping to ease traffic flow and reconnect communities during this period.
Friday 12 July 11am
Overnight good progress was made on the Givens Grove to M25 J9 and all resurfacing has been completed, there are some minor works still to do but the road will be open for the M25 closure this weekend.
Yesterday, we started work on the section between Flint Hill and Deepdene roundabout and had managed to resurface to approximately Chart Lane.
We are also working from Deepdene Roundabout towards Mickelham and are approaching the Denbies Roundabout.
Once the surfacing is complete, we still have to ensure the lining and road studs are in place before reopening.
We very much appreciate the support we are receiving from local residents as we react to this situation.

Work continued throughout Wednesday to resurface the sections between Beare Green and Old Horsham Road, Holmwood and Givens Grove to the M25 J9 Leatherhead. As of 6am this morning, we had laid over 2,750 tonnes of tarmac which equates to 23,654 metres squared of resurfacing.
Today have completed resurfacing between Beare Green and Old Horsham Road. This means that the Clark's Green to Bear Green Roundabout stretch is now open but will remain access only from the roundabout to Beare Green Village.
We are on track to open the A24 between Givens Grove to the M25 J9 Leatherhead before the M25 weekend closure comes into force.
This afternoon we have commenced work on the Flint Hill to Deepdene section. Once on site it was identified that the road is too narrow to allow two-way traffic past our equipment so we have had to close the road in both directions. We apologise that we haven't been able to advertise this in advance and for the further inconvenience this will cause. Access will be maintained for residents.
Thursday 11 July, 12 noon
Work continued through Wednesday to resurface the sections between Beare Green and Old Horsham Road, Holmwood and Givens Grove to the M25 J9 Leatherhead.
As of 6am this morning we have laid over 2,750 Tonnes of tarmac, which equates to 23,654 metres squared of resurfacing.
We are still on target to fully reopen the A24 between Givens Grove to the M25 J9 Leatherhead before the M25 weekend closure comes into force.
We are aiming have the Clark's Green to Bear Green section open tonight.
As part of our clean up operations we are continuing to clean gullies and areas of the road that are not as heavily affected.
We are aiming to have all works complete by 22 July but this will be subject to change.
Wednesday 10 July, 5pm
Further investigations throughout the day have confirmed that the full 10 mile stretch between Beare Green and the M25 Junction 9, northbound carriageway, will need to be resurfaced.
In addition to the resurfacing, we have been carrying out work to clean gullies and reduce any environmental impact.
Work will continue throughout the evening and overnight again to allow us to continue the resurfacing works and reopen the road for residents as soon as possible.
Wednesday 10 July, 11am
Work started yesterday afternoon at the southern end of the A24 (Beare Green) to reconnect communities with amenities as quickly as possible. Highways crews have been working to repair a section between the Beare Green roundabout and Old Horsham Road. The carriageway has been planed and 400tonnes of tarmac laid. Work on this stretch will be continuing today.
Last night, work also started on the Givons Grove to the Leatherhead M25 junction (J9). This is on track to be completed before the weekend.
Further testing of the road is taking place this morning to fully understand the extent of the damage and prioritise further action.

Tuesday 9 July
Highways crews will be working day and night to repair a section of the A24 between the Beare Green roundabout to the Leatherhead M25 junction (J9) following a diesel spill from a lorry earlier today.
Approximately 10 miles of resurfacing (in excess of 75,000 square metres) will be needed to repair the road.
We're starting works at the southern end of the A24 (Beare Green) so that the communities that are currently isolated can get out and about.
Crews will also be working tonight at the northern end of the closure from junction 9 of the M25 back towards Leatherhead on the A24 tonight with the aim to have it fully resurfaced by the weekend prior the M25 closure at Junctions 10 to11.
Please continue to avoid the area whilst we undertake these extensive works.
Safety notice
The road is extremely slippery, drivers are ignoring the closure causing further damage to the road surface and safety concerns for our teams on site. Please avoid the area until further notice or follow the signs and diversions.
Frequently asked questions
Will planned works in my area be affected by the spill?
Surrey Highways has had to get extra teams in to support the clean up and ongoing repairs for the A24. These are teams that would have been due to carry out programmed planned works, which will now not go ahead. We are sending updates on the works that are affected as soon as we are notified.
What do I do if my property has been damaged by the spill?
You will need to contact and submit a claim through your own insurance company. Unfortunately, Surrey Highways is unable to help clean any businesses or properties.
Are Surrey County Council paying for these repairs?
Surrey County Council's highways teams are working hard to get the A24 repaired as soon as possible. We will be seeking to recover our costs in due course.
