We have courses that you help you master the basics and grow your confidence. Start with our essential skills and move to confidence builder.

All courses include best hygiene practices and food safety hazards that may occur in a kitchen.

Our courses run over a period of weeks for a term. We have three terms in the year from September to July plus short courses at the start of summer.

Enrolments open each term in March, July and November. If courses have already started you may still be able to join so please contact us.

If courses are full please sign up to our newsletter to hear when enrolments open again.

Course levels and information

We offer courses for beginners and those who want to improve their confidence. Courses are available at a low fee thanks to the Henrietta Parker Trust Fund.

Learn to cook courses (Essential Skills) are courses that focus on the absolute basics, including knife skills, boiling, simmering, frying, marinades, tasting and flavours.

Cookery Confidence is a course that focuses on grilling, making a tortilla or frittata, breadmaking, basic sauces and baking a cake.

All learners must complete a learner cookery checklist and submit it before the first class.

Fees and discounts

We have many discounts and fee support options. These include money off your first course if you are a library member, Surrey Heritage user, or over 66.

Please note: The course fees do not include the cost of ingredients, and you are responsible for supplying your own ingredients for the lesson. You will receive an email before the start of the course, informing you of the ingredients and equipment you will need to bring with you.

The Henrietta Parker Trust (HPT) is a charitable trust that was set up with the aim of supporting Adult Skills Development.

The Molesey (Henrietta Parker) Adult Learning Centre continues to offer this today and we are pleased that Surrey Adult Learning (SAL) are able to offer courses and learning opportunities at a discount to eligible learners as part of our Essential Skills programme of courses, using the HPT fund.

Further information can be found on our dedicated Henrietta Parker Trust website.
