These courses cater to older adults and individuals seeking to improve their muscle strength and balance.
Whether you are new to strong for longer or are looking to want to revisit some forgotten exercises, our courses will set you on your way.
We offer courses in in Yoga, Tai Chi, pilates, active stretch and stay active. On each course you will gain the skills and knowledge to practise the exercises at home. You will learn how to fit them in to your daily routine.
All learners must complete a learner health information checklist and submit it before the first class.
Our courses run over a period of weeks for a term. We have three terms in the year from September to July plus short courses at the start of summer.
Enrolments open each term in March, July and November. If courses have already started you may still be able to join so please contact us.

Course levels and information
We run weekly beginners and improvers courses. We also have some courses available for experienced learners.
- Beginners will learn how to build strength and improve flexibility. They will learn to improve health and refresh the mind, body, and spirit.
- Improvers will enhance performance skills.
- Experienced learners will be able to take it up a notch and challenge themselves further.
Your tutor will provide some resources. All are available at the centre. But, if you want to buy your own yoga mat, blocks, bands, and balls, your tutor can advise. You will need to wear comfortable clothing which allows a full range of movement, and appropriate shoes. We also have a water fountain located by reception so we recommend you bring a water bottle.
Active stretch
This course combines stretching, aerobic exercise, and resistance. It aims to keep your muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. You will use resistance bands, light weights, and your own bodyweight.
These exercises will help you build strength, prevent injury, and boost fitness.

Stay active
Join an aerobic class. It will make you feel invigorated and boosted!
This course aims to enhance your overall health in a fun and sociable environment. Each lesson will last an hour. It will include a warm-up, exercising to music, followed by a warm down. This course will help build flexibility, strength and balance. You will be using equipment such as light hand weights, exercise balls and resistance bands.
Pilates
Pilates is a great way to build core strength and improve flexibility whilst keeping you healthy and active.
This course will focus on alignment, balance, breathwork, posture and core stability. , so whatever level of experience, you will feel real benefits.

Tai chi
Tai Chi is an ancient oriental art. You will learn a variety of exercises to develop balance, body awareness, and mental focus. You will do this through a set sequence of slow, precise movements.
Yoga
Yoga helps you build wellbeing. It uses slow movements, deep breathing, relaxation, and physical postures. All to increase body awareness and improve physical and mental health. You will learn a range of yoga postures in standing, seated, and lying positions.
Fees and discounts
We have many discounts and fee support options. These include money off your first course if you are a library member, Surrey Heritage user, or over 66. There are no additional costs for this course, unless you would like to invest in your own equipment.
