Course intent

This short course will celebrate the fresh new flowers that grow in Summer. You will learn about creating different flower designs, how to keep them fresh and the skills you need to select the best seasonal flowers, foliage and materials for your arrangements. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

Creating a variety of flower arrangements in both modern and traditional designs · Selecting flowers for your designs, learning their names as well as how to look after them · Explore colour, form and design to build on your skills which will enable you to create a range of designs suitable for different locations and occasions · Safeguarding, Prevent & British Values Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context of the craft and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor. There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. So that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner to complete the required Individual Learning Plan. For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for all levels of ability. No previous experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a love of flowers. Each week there will be new designs and techniques which will also be appropriate for the returning learner. As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Wear closed toe shoes · An apron or wear old clothes. · Equipment: Scissors, bucket for flowers, plastic sheet or cloth to work on, small knife, notebook and pen. · Materials: A list of materials will be sent out prior to the start date. Each week you will be given guidance on suitable materials, flowers and foliage to bring and/or purchase for the following week. · You may wish to bring a camera to record your work.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Further short courses and weekly classes are available that cover a range of topics from seasonal specialities to wedding flowers and themed designs. You may also wish to go on and study for a recognised qualification.

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
