Sewing - Bunting Bonanza [SSK]

  • 11 July: Enrolments open for languages, dance, exercise and games, cookery and nutrition, counselling, psychology, history and culture, work skills and IT.
  • 17 July: Enrolments open for Passport to Wellbeing.

Course intent

Learn how to make attractive buntings, from simple colourful triangles to patchwork bats, for your home or as gifts. Make buntings to suit many occasions and settings – birthdays, weddings, summer patio, Halloween and Christmas. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment and a fun and creative day of sewing.

What will we cover?

• Safe and effective use of sewing equipment

  • Colour, size, shape and complexity
  • Preparation of fabrics and components
  • Optional - decorative techniques: applique, patchwork, addition of other components
  • Construction methods for the flags
  • Sewing the bunting into strings

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutor guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Beginners and improvers.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• your own fabrics

  • thread
  • any additional components for your individual project and for testing techniques and machine stitches
  • basic sewing equipment - pins, tape measure, fabric marker and scissors
  • a notepad, pen and pencil

Rotary cutters, mats, cutting rulers and sewing machines are available to use during the workshop.

We will send a ‘needs list’ before the start of the workshop to tell you what you need to bring and where to source fabrics.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Patchwork, Quilting and Appliqué makes for a creative and mindful hobby, and courses for this as well as other Needlecraft classes run throughout the year.

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
