Sewing - Sew a Precious Memory Bear - Improvers SSK [SSK]

Course intent

Learn how to sew this adorable bear [33 cm /13 inches tall from sitting] from memorable fabrics with additions from your scrap-box or stash, or make it from new fabrics as a wonderful gift. In this two-day, hands-on workshop the tutor will lead you through making the bear. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will we cover?

• Preparation and cutting out of patterns, fabrics and components

• Use of instruction sheets, stage by stage, to construct the bear.
• Decorative techniques for the features

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutor guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Improvers. Some familiarity with fabric, thread and the ability to straight stitch on a sewing machine will be essential.

Our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• your own fabrics

• thread
• any additional components for your individual project and for testing techniques and machine stitches
• basic sewing equipment -pins, tape measure, fabric marker and scissors
• a notepad, pen and pencil

• Sewing machines are available to use during the workshop.

We will send you a ‘needs list’ before the start of the workshop to tell you what you need to bring and where to source fabrics.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses with SAL. We offer Patchwork, Quilting and Appliqué courses to develop skills in this subject area throughout the year, as well as occasional Saturday workshops and other Needlecraft classes.
