Drawing & Painting - An Introduction

Course intent

This course will introduce you to a variety of techniques to bring out the artist in you and allow you to develop your understanding of the fundamentals of drawing and painting. You will use a range of drawing and painting media to develop your technical skills and creative flair. .

What will I learn?

You will learn and practice:

Describe and demonstrate mark making techniques used in drawing

Identify the best methods to create tone in charcoal

Describe and demonstrate key painting techniques · Create a body of work (drawings and paintings) for your own portfolio

Each week, you will learn different techniques and build your art skills in manageable steps.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn drawing and painting from a beginner level and is also suitable for those with some experience. However, you do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject, just an interest and willingness to learn.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

For the first lesson you need to bring: · A notepad and pen or pencil · If you have any art materials of your own, you are welcome to bring these · All basic costs are included but sometimes a more advanced project may require learners to buy items to complete their work · The tutor will always advise on where to buy any items at the best prices. · You may wish to bring an apron or wear old ‘painting’ clothes

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto longer courses or enrol on our other Arts and Crafts courses.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
