Self Defence for Women - Homewise

High volumes of enquiries - July 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

The Homewise course will help you be more aware of your surroundings, to notice people or situations that might represent a threat and how best to respond. This course will teach you practical ways of how you or someone you are caring for can feel safer at home

What will I learn?

You will learn how to correctly assess and recognise risk. You will learn how to protect yourself and your home from fraudsters who may be on your doorstep or on the phone or may gain access to your personal data. You will learn practical tips on crime prevention while you are at home or away.

You will practice simple physical techniques to defend yourself against an intruder or someone you feel suspicious of. The course will teach you how to use a walking aid, long umbrella, or other household items to defend yourself if needed.

This is a fun and sociable course with role plays, group discussions and typical scenarios for you to practice responding to. The course is jammed packed with tried and tested techniques for women of all ages with a stronger focus on vulnerable women.

Some of the topics will include:

Dealing with an intruder, opening the door to strangers, crime prevention equipment for your home, how to use your voice to stay safe, how to deal with home deliveries or collections, how to ask someone for identification and what to look for, how to stay safe on the telephone, how to secure your home when you are away, how to find more information about crime prevention and how to help others who may feel vulnerable and unsafe.
