Course intent

You will discover about the Ancient Greek comedy of Aristophanes and why his work is still relevant today. Our series of one-off lectures will give you the opportunity to delve into the details of the Ancient world with our expert tutor.

What will I learn?

Aristophanes is the most famous ancient Greek comic playwright. His comedies offer a fascinating commentary on contemporary Athenian society, politics, and literature.

We shall explore what makes his appeal so enduring and whether modern audiences can still appreciate and relate to his sense of humour.

We recommend bringing paper and pen so you can make notes.
