History - Roman Britain: Life on Hadrian’s Wall for the military and civilian population

High volumes of enquiries - July 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

You will discover about the Emperor Hadrian, and the frontier wall across the north of the Provincia of Britannia.

What will I learn?

Investigate the Roman military campaign in Britannia prior to Hadrian’s arrival. The reasons for constructing the wall, and key defensive features. The daily routine for the military, and for civilians living along the wall and their interaction.

Additionally, we’ll explore the civilian settlements such as at Corbridge and Vindolanda, how and why these develop and the evidence of Roman religion and worship.
