Patchwork & Quilting Halloween Workshop

High volumes of enquiries - July 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

Enjoy an informative and practical day making traditional or contemporary patchwork and quilting for Halloween to incorporate into a lovely / spooky gift for family, friend or treat for yourself. Project items might include a bat wall-hanging, a pumpkin placemat, bunting or a rice bag for treats [patterns provided]

What will I learn?

Whilst making your Halloween item this practical workshop will allow you to learn: · New skills in patchwork and quilting, re-visit forgotten techniques and develop existing ones. · cutting with a rotary cutter · joining fabrics by machine · constructing patchwork blocks at differing levels of complexity · quilting · edge-finishing techniques.

This workshop will provide the opportunity for you to sew individual or multiple patchwork blocks which can be made into super Halloween items. The Tutor will be available to discuss your individual ideas and projects.

Please note that larger or multiple items may not be completed at the workshop due to time constraints or design complexity, but you will receive information for finishing at home.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This practical workshop is for people who enjoy sewing and is designed for all ability levels. If you are a beginner some familiarity with fabric, thread and a sewing machine would be beneficial. More experienced learners will be encouraged to develop and extend their skills.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

What do I need to bring · A list of required items will be sent out before the start of the workshop which will include what you need to bring and where to source fabrics. Some recycled fabrics may be a viable option · You are required to provide your own fabrics and thread for your individual project · You will need basic sewing equipment, eg pins, needles and scissors etc. · Rotary cutting equipment and sewing machines belonging to the centre are available to use during the course.

What can I do when I finish the course?

This workshop can be studied in isolation or considered as an introduction into a much larger subject area that makes a creative hobby. Further Patchwork and Quilting courses will be offered throughout the year by Surrey Adult Learning to develop the newly acquired skills and this subject area. Occasional Saturday classes and other Needlecraft classes will also be offered. For further details, please visit our website – www.surreycc.gov.uk/adultlearning
