Italian Culture - Explore Gestures & Idioms

High volumes of enquiries - August 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

Did you know that are approximately 250 hand gestures used by Italians on a daily basis? Few conversations are ever complete without one, but where do they come from? In this lecture, you will learn more about the origins and uses of these small but mighty tools for communication.

What will I learn?

We will explore the most commonly used hand gestures and idioms in the Italian language. You will learn when to use them, with which facial expression, the words associated with them and tips for using them correctly. You’ll also find out about idioms and the ancient stories and traditions from which they originate.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Our lectures are suitable for all abilities. No prior knowledge is required, just an interest in Italian culture. When talking about Italian idioms, a little knowledge of the language would be useful but it is not required.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You are welcome to bring a pen and notebook for taking notes, but most important of all is your curiosity and enthusiasm!

What can I do when I finish the course?

Our Italian language courses are a great next step from this course, whether you are a complete beginner or advanced speaker. We also offer a wide range of courses on Cultural Studies, as well as other Humanities subjects that may be of interest to further your knowledge.

You can also benefit from our special offer of three lectures for £45 when booking at the same time. Please note this offer can only be redeemed over the phone or in a centre, not when enrolling online.
