Acrylic Painting – Autumn Landscape with Trees Workshop

High volumes of enquiries - August 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

Develop your drawing and painting skills to create an acrylic painting of a beautiful, golden autumnal landscape. We will focus how to use colour, composition and how to create a feeling of distance, foreground and midground.

What will I learn?

You will learn · how to work from photographs or similar found images of an autumn landscape (with trees) · how to convey different atmospheres and the effect of light on the landscape · composition: how to make your painting more interesting to look at · colour mixing and which colours work well together · measuring and proportion · how to paint texture and other brush techniques

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is aimed at those who have completed a beginners drawing workshop or longer course and who have completed another painting in acrylics workshop rather than at complete beginners. To join this course you will need to know: · how to start a drawing · different pencils grades and their uses · how to draw basic shapes with confidence · a basic understanding of shading · how to mix primary colours to make secondary colours · a basic understanding of perspective

If you are unsure about your level, please contact the tutor by emailing adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring: · a set of acrylic paints with as many basic colours as possible including white. Bring colours that will be helpful for painting your chosen landscape such as various browns, oranges, blues, greens, reds, yellows, purples or greys · acrylic paper (suggested size A4 or A3 if you like to work on a larger scale) or a board or canvas. · An A4 sketch book with cartridge paper · Synthetic Acrylic brushes, a small selection or set of round, filbert and flat brushes. · Pencils (2B or 3B) · an eraser · a sharpener · low tack masking tape · a palette · a water jar · photograph/s of a landscape that you wish to paint · wear old clothes or a cover such as an apron or smock as acrylic paint can stain clothes.

The Tutor will provide some images to provide you with choice.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can progress onto many opportunities to take up other art & craft classes, including further drawing and painting courses or one-day specific workshops with this tutor including the autumn themed still life workshop on the 16th November - Drawing & Painting - Autumn fruits & nature still life - pen, ink & watercolour wash

The Tutor teaches drawing and painting at Guildford centre on a Monday and Friday morning and Farnham centre on a Thursday morning and afternoon.
