Course intent
This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the wonderful art of glass fusing where you will make fused objects with a festive theme. Your tutor will guide you to experiment and create your own personal design/s from scratch.
What will I learn?
You will · experiment with different coloured glasses and · try your hand with glass accessories such as confetti, frits and stringers. · produce at least one small glass pieces such as sun catchers, wall hanging decorations or coasters
It is a good idea to do some research beforehand and arrive with potential ideas in addition to those that will be suggested by your tutor.
The fired pieces will be ready for collection from the centre about a week after the course.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for beginners with no previous knowledge and for learners with stained glass experience who wish to expand their glasswork skills.
This course is not suitable for pregnant women, lactating mothers or people on blood thinning medication as there is a small risk of cuts. If you have any queries, please email the tutor on adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring: · a fine waterproof marker pen (Sharpie, black or in a metallic colour) · old clothes/apron · sensible closed toe shoes · a notepad, pen, pencil and rubber · a shoe box or similar sized box, · a clean cotton tea towel · safety goggles.

What can I do when I finish the course?
You can join a stained-glass course where you can learn about building a panel with leads (architectural stained glass) or copper foiling (Tiffany technique to create small items such as free hanging panels or mirrors) Learn to paint on glass with traditional paints/techniques. All classes have kiln access so you can further develop fusing skills. All skills/ techniques complement each other in the creation of a stained-glass panel or object.
