Course intent

This lecture delves into Iran's rich history, exploring its diverse customs and traditions that have evolved over millennia. Whether you're intrigued by the depth of its ancient heritage or seeking to understand the nuances of a unique Middle Eastern culture, this course offers an ideal opportunity for exploration.

What will I learn?

Iranian culture is a fascinating blend of ancient pre-Islamic traditions and Islamic influences. Spanning across the Middle East and Central Asia, it has held a predominant position, with Farsi serving as its language.

In this course, you will: · gain an in-depth understanding of Iran's ancient history, tracing its roots from pre-Islamic civilizations to modern times. · explore the diverse customs, traditions, and lifestyles that exist across different regions of Iran, reflecting its rich cultural tapestry. · develop your understanding of social etiquette, rituals, festivals, and ceremonies observed in Iranian society.

We recommend bringing paper and pen so you can make notes.

What can I do when I finish the course?

We offer a wide range of courses and lectures on aspects of history, as well as other Humanities subjects that may be of interest to further your knowledge. You can also register to the other Persian lecture called “Persian Culture - Persian and Iranian dishes and regions” which will take place in the Spring term 2025.

This course does not qualify for an Education and Skills Funding Agency subsidy, so no concessions are available.
