Upholstery - Introduction to Chair Caning & Seat Weaving

High volumes of enquiries - August 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

Within this one day course learners have the opportunity to choose one of the following traditional seat weaving techniques – The six way cane weave pattern, paper cord weaving in an envelope pattern or Danish cord weaving all on a small sample frame to take away

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • How to use the tools involved in cane/seat weaving
  • About the various materials to use and their different attributes

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for beginners with little or no previous experience.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring:

  • A notebook and pen
  • A pair of old gloves to protect your hands when pulling on the paper or Danish cord

A single frame and materials for that frame are included in the cost.

What can I do when I finish the course?

The skills learnt on this course can be used to tackle small projects at home or lead you to look for further leisure courses where you can bring your own furniture and are supported in repairing the weaving with a tutor for guidance.
