Course intent

Learn to play this fascinating strategic and problem-solving game.

Chess can: · Help you to think ahead and not rush decision making. · Increase your IQ, · Improve memory function. · Help develop higher levels of creativity. · Simultaneously exercise both sides of the brain, help prevent memory loss or dementia. · Increase problem solving skills.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to: · Know how to move the pieces. · Discover special rules of the game. · understand the rules of Chess, opening & Pawn development · acquire basic techniques on how to win.

Our courses build on past learning, week by week, to develop new skills and abilities. You will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

The course is open to everyone.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please bring a notepad or mobile device to take notes. Any lesson slides and additional written information on the techniques discussed will be provided.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Our chess courses are planned to provide a clear pathway for progression, through the academic year, and beyond.
