Course intent

Strong for Longer is a collection of strength and confidence-building courses adapted to you, whatever your stage in life. These unique courses provide you with an opportunity to regain and maintain the skills and knowledge to protect your health now and in the future. Strong for Longer courses are aimed at adults of all ages looking to increase their day-to-day movement and improve their muscle strength.

The course works at your level.

This course is a combination of stretching, light weights and resistance aimed to reinvigorate or maintain flexibility, strength and mobility. The course works at your level.

What will I learn?

This course will use resistance bands, light weights, stretches and your own bodyweight to build strength, prevent injury and boost overall fitness. We have purposely blended techniques into one course to provide you with the skills and knowledge to improve cardiovascular fitness and cognitive health. Each lesson will include a warm-up, various set movements and a warm down.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Strong for Longer courses are ideal if you: · Want to start or reintroduce exercise into your week. · Want to exercise seated or holding onto a barre. · Feel confident with light to moderate physical activity. · Want to maintain or rehabilitate strength and movement.

Our expert tutors will adapt all movements to suit individual health & wellbeing needs.

What do I need to bring to the first class?

Before the first lesson: · Complete and return the health check (link included in enrolment email). · Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to reach up and bend down. · Wear trainers, or similar shoes which hold the foot, provide cushioning, and grip the floor. · Bring a bottle of drinking water. The centre has fountains to refill.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Enrol on another Strong for Longer course to maintain good physical health or use the course as a stepping stone to our more challenging courses when you feel stronger and more confident

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
