Course intent

The Streetwise workshop will help you be more aware of your surroundings, to notice people or situations that might represent a threat and how best to respond. This workshop will teach you practical ways of how you or someone you are caring for can feel safer when out and about.

What will I learn?

All self-defence lessons will help you be more aware of your surroundings, noticing people or situations that might represent a threat and knowing how to move away. Prevention is always the first stage of any self-defence technique. You will learn how to deal with an attacker, helping you end an attack as soon as possible and get away.

We will cover the following topics:

Personal safety, using your voice, body postures, self-defence strategies, using everyday objects to defend yourself, protecting your bag and valuables, pick pocketing, snatching, sexual crime, stalking, when to call for help, victim support and where to go for further information and support.

You will learn how to use hand and elbow strikes, how to kick and learn the break a wooden board with a hand technique. There will be lots of discussion and role plays. This is a sociable and fun workshop jammed packed with tried and tested techniques for women of all ages.
