Course intent

Learn how to paint an abstract painting. Explore different approaches to making abstract art through compelling visual presentations, and a broad look at the use of colour, tone, composition, texture and paint application

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • A variety of paint techniques which will be demonstrated and explained by the tutor, who will encourage an imaginative, sensitive and individual handling of paint
  • To become familiar with visual language by looking at abstract art from the early 20th century to the present day
  • Different methods of arriving at abstraction – e.g. starting from observation, using experimental methods and translating different sensory information.
  • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is All abilities although particularly suitable for improvers and those with a basic understanding of modern abstract painting.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

For the first lesson you need to bring:
