Course intent

In this course beginners will get to know to the world of jewellery design and manufacture, whilst more experienced learners will enhance their skills and progress onto more complex techniques. You will develop design and making skills to enable you to turn a design concept into a piece of wearable jewellery.

What will I learn?

You will learn: · the basic techniques involved in designing and creating a simple piece of jewellery · developing your creativity, skills and techniques to make more complex pieces · work on your own projects with guidance from the tutor. · working safely in the Jewellery studio

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will receive feedback from the tutor.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This is a class for beginners and those with some previous experience. Learners should have basic dexterity and be able to read and follow instructions.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring: · A sketchbook/notebook and pen. · Copper is provided, however learners will need to purchase any precious metals used for individual projects e.g. silver, gemstones, beads, enamels and findings · Wear sensible, closed toe shoes · An apron or wear old clothes

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto further Arts & Crafts courses.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
