Course intent

Discover the art of draping, learn new techniques and produce a garment using pattern cutting in a 3-dimensional way.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to: · Drape an upper body block on the mannequin · Translate a draped block to a paper pattern · Sew the block and check fitting · Adapt the block paper pattern for different designs · Drape a simple dress · Translate the draped dress to a paper pattern · Cut and make the dress

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for beginners and those who wish to understand basic Draping.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring: · 2-3 metres medium-weight calico or similar fabric for draping the toile · Dressmaking pins and pin cushion (ideally with a strap that can be fixed on your wrist) · Fabric and paper scissors, ruler, set squares, French curves, tape measure, tracing wheel · Carbon paper · Pencil- (regular, red and blue) · 1-metre elastic with 1.5-2.5 cm (1/2-1”) in widths. · Notebook

What can I do when I finish the course?

Opportunity to join other pattern cutting and dressmaking courses offered by Surrey Adult Learning.
